Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS) is proud to announce its third annual Pearl Magnet Comic and Game Convention (PearlCon III) to be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The event is sponsored by the Daniel Pearl Magnet High School PTSA, and will be held on the DPMHS campus.
The event is targeted for Middle School and High School students, and is intended to be a day of fun and enjoyment for both kids and parents. Local game stores and comic book stores will be on campus in the Dealers Room, and will running games, talks, and seminars throughout the day.
We use this event as the primary fundraiser for our school, since the majority of families do not have the means to help finance activities at the school, and donations are desperately needed to fund specific projects as well as to supplement the meager budget that provides for the basic materials and personnel for daily operation. Funds generated by the 2017 PearlCon II convention have been already been allocated to classroom teachers to allow them to purchase items such as a classroom set of the novel The Martian to be taught in the Physics class, replacement microscopes slides for the Biology classes, and video switching equipment for the Media class. In addition, monies are being allocated to allow our award-winning Journalism students to travel to national conventions in Houston and San Francisco during this academic year.
One of our great thrills is the support the we have received from many people in the comic and animation industry. In our first year, we were able to get Stan Lee to make a video greeting that we have shown each year at the start of the convention. Last year, Dan Povenmire, one of the creative forces behind Phineas and Ferb, gave a presentation to our attendees.
